Getting started

What is DeskSip?

DeskSip is an iPhone app that helps you drink water, take short movement breaks (Desk Resets), rest your eyes and run focus sessions during your workday.

Which devices does DeskSip run on?

iPhone with iOS 15.1 or later. DeskSip isn't available for iPad or Android.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no account or sign-in, and DeskSip works offline.

How do I start my Desk Day?

Tap Start my Desk Day. It also starts automatically when you log your first drink, complete a Desk Reset or an eye break, or start a focus session. Your Desk Day can end automatically at the finish time of your work schedule; you can change that in Settings → Work schedule.

Reminders

How do reminders work?

Reminders are optional notifications scheduled on your iPhone. You can allow them during setup or later in Settings → Notification preferences. They only arrive on your work days, within your work hours and while a Desk Day is running. They never arrive during a focus session, and they're always at least 10 minutes apart.

How often will I get reminders?

By default, a drink reminder every 60 minutes, a Desk Reset every 90 minutes and an eye break every 40 minutes. You can adjust each one or switch it off.

I'm not getting reminders. What should I check?

Check that notifications are allowed for DeskSip in iOS Settings, that today is one of your work days and it's within your work hours, that a Desk Day is running, and that no focus session is running. If notifications are turned off in iOS Settings, DeskSip shows an Open iOS Settings button to help you turn them back on.

Will I know when a focus session ends?

Yes. If notifications are allowed, you'll get one when a focus session ends, even when your iPhone is locked.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

Only on your iPhone. DeskSip doesn't collect your data or send it anywhere, and there's no cloud copy.

How do I delete my history?

Go to Settings → Delete local history and confirm. This removes all your recorded activity; your goals, schedule and reminder settings stay. Deleting the app removes everything.

Can I export my data or sync it between devices?

Not in this version. There's no export and no sync between devices. When you move to a new iPhone, your DeskSip data comes across only through an iPhone backup and restore (iCloud or computer), depending on your own backup settings.

Desk Score and streaks

How is my Desk Score calculated?

Your Desk Score, from 0 to 100, is the average of four equal parts: hydration, Desk Resets, eye breaks and focus minutes. Each part measures your progress against its daily goal and is capped at 100%. The end-of-day summary shows the breakdown.

Why didn't my Desk Reset, eye break or focus session count?

Only a fully completed Desk Reset, with all three steps, counts. Ending an eye break or a focus session early earns no credit.

How do streaks work?

Your streak counts consecutive work days on which you ended a Desk Day. Days that aren't work days never break it.

Can I change my goals?

Yes, in Settings → Daily goals. Changing a goal re-scores today, and past days in Insights are shown against your current goals too.

Other questions

Can I log drinks in milliliters?

No. In this version, drinks are logged in ounces only.

Can focus sessions block other apps?

No. DeskSip can't block other apps. For fewer interruptions, turn on Do Not Disturb or an iOS Focus while you work.

I changed the date or time zone and the app didn't follow. What should I do?

Close DeskSip fully and reopen it.

Is DeskSip a medical app?

No. DeskSip is a general wellness tool, not a medical app.
